Worth the Wait

Waiting is hard. The Bible is full of people who waited for God to fulfill a promise. Abraham and Sarah waited 25 years for God’s promised son to be born. Jacob waited for Rachel for 14 years. Caleb and Joshua waited 40 years in the wilderness before God allowed the Israelites to enter the promised land. David waited 15 years to become king after his anointing. The answer is worth the wait.

I am certain that I will see the Lord's goodness in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord: be strong and let your heart be courageous. Wait for the Lord. Psalm 27:13-14

My husband and I are in a period of waiting right now. God has called us to move to the metroplex, repeatedly confirming it. Our house sold in one day and here we are. Four months later we don’t have a home, and I am still without a job. So we wait and trust.

We are ready to be settled, find a church home and begin meeting people. I try to remember Jesus will show us the path in His time. But honestly, it has been a bit of a struggle to stay positive in the wake of being passed over for 11 job opportunities.

Looking Forward in the Waiting

To combat the inner strife, I list ways He has provided for me in the past and work through a Bible study about how He is trustworthy. I have also written scriptures that promise His faithfulness and read through them often.

As I do this, my heart changes from weary and sad to joyful hope! For a bit of time. Then I have to do read through them all again. And again. And again. Guess what, most likely even again. Know what I mean?

I love this verse: I am certain that I will see the Lord’s goodness… (Psalm 27:13a)! Notice the future tense: will see. We praise Him in advance of His goodness and faithfulness. God loves us and wants His very best for us. He promises to provide. It will be in His timing and better than we could ever ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20). We just have to trust.

Update

This post was written last April. It is now October. God has since changed our focus from buying a house to leasing a townhome for the next two years. It is not what I originally imagined, but I trust that God has a plan for our good. He will provide a home in His perfect timing. I have a counseling position in a middle school in Flower Mound, which I absolutely love! I work with some of the best people! And we have found a new church home. Now I can see that all of these were worth the wait. God is good.

How about You?

What are you waiting for right now? Are you feeling downcast? If so, maybe try writing ways He has already shown His faithfulness to you and scriptures that promise His trustworthiness. Then ask for joy. He will answer.
