Between a pandemic and political and racial unrest, this past year created many opportunities for battles and fear. Who fights your battles for you?
Recently, the Lord reminded me of King Jehoshaphat’s story in 2 Chronicles 20. Several countries came to fight against Judah. The king, in his fear, turned to the Lord and invited his country to do the same.
The Battle Belongs to the Lord
God answered, “Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s… You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your position; stand firm, and see the deliverance the Lord will give you. (vs.15b, 17a emphasis mine).
The people worshiped God, and early the next morning they obeyed. On their way to battle, they praised God. “As they began to sing and praise,” (vs.22), the Lord caused the armies to fight against and annihilate each other.
Victory Over the Battle
When Judah came to a place that overlooked the battlefield, they saw dead bodies scattered over the ground. By the time they got there, the battle was already won! Jehoshaphat’s army spent 3 days gathering plunder! All they had done was sing! God fought, won the battle, and then called it their victory!
A Battle for Today
The Lord has fought battles for me several times in my life. One particular time, I was faced with a major life change that I feared because it meant I would have to sell my house and move to an apartment. It also meant I would need to find a new home for my beloved dog.
In a series of events, including him getting out of the fence and getting lost, God revealed His plan and solution. A family found him, fell in love, and when we reunited, they told us, “He is the best, most well-trained dog we have ever met! If you ever need to find him a new home, we want him!”
God worked out my dilemma for me and provided a loving home for my precious pet. He cared about something that was important to me but was a seemingly small thing in the scheme of things. I only needed to trust Him in the beginning to step out in obedience knowing He would take care of every detail that concerned me.
Trust the Lord with Your Battles
Friend, these are unsettling times, but we serve a God who hears our cries and cares about the small, intimate details of our lives. He will fight our battle for us if we surrender it, trust Him, and watch Him work. He’s got it!
Be blessed.
You go before I know that You’ve even gone to win my war. Your love becomes my greatest defense. It leads me from the dry wilderness. And all I did was praise. All I did was worship. All I did was bow down. All I did was stay still. – Defender by Francesca Battistelli
