The Rescuer

He redeems your life from the Pit. Psalm 103:4 (CSB)

As I write this, our entire world is experiencing the ravaging effects of the Coronavirus. It is a time of lost jobs, financial uncertainty, sickness, and death. As a result, many are unnerved with unrest. Even those of us who love Jesus may find ourselves in over our heads as our circumstances cause disheartening thoughts to race.

As I struggled to allow God’s peace to reign in my heart these last weeks, He brought Psalm 103 to my attention many times. Every time I read the words; it makes my soul sing!

Praise the Lord, O my soul: all my inmost being, praise his holy name.Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits -who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases…who redeems your life from the Pit (Ps. 103:1-4a).

It is times like this that we may feel as if we are in a pit- of despair, unrest, illness, etc. I can think of three times throughout my life when it seemed I was in a pit that I could not crawl out of.

Are you clawing your way to the top, but can’t seem to break the surface of the fear, desperation, or the persistent pressure?

My friend, the God of the universe knows exactly what you are going through, and this verse promises that He redeems our lives from that very pit.

Once I rented a cabin to get away from life in the depths of one of these pits. God blessed our time together and showed up in a mighty way. As I worked through those days, He released me from chains of unforgiveness and faulty beliefs. So much so, that I literally felt the weight fall away from my shoulders! My soul soared!

I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God (Ps. 40:1-3a)

He rescued me from a pit that I didn’t even realize I was in. Has He rescued you from a pit? If so, praise His Name! If you are waiting to be rescued, know that He is able and willing. Trust Him. He is faithful.
